Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation

Physiotherapists are university trained medical professionals qualified to assess and treat the conditions that are affecting the body’s movement system and function. Medical doctors refer more to physiotherapists than any other health profession.

Treatments at Brickyard Physiotherapy are one on one, private sessions with an extensively trained and highly skilled physiotherapist. Physiotherapy sessions will include assessment, diagnosis and management of any bodily complaint, using hands on treatment to promote, restore, and maintain physical function.

How do you know if your Physiotherapist is an expert in their field?

In Canada, physiotherapists who have completed extensive, internationally recognized post-graduate education in orthopaedics (muscle, nerve and joint problems), earn the right to become Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT). This training focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of complicated muscle, nerve and joint problems.

All of Brickyard Physiotherapy’s therapists have this designation or are actively working towards it. There are only five practicing physiotherapists in Nanaimo with this designation; three of them work at Brickyard Physiotherapy!

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists are university trained medical professionals qualified to assess and treat the conditions that are affecting the body’s movement system and function. Medical doctors refer more to physiotherapists than any other health profession.

Our physiotherapists are experts in a variety of relevant fields, including IMS acupuncture, sports injuries, pain management, and mobility restoration.

Manipulative or Manual Therapy

Manual therapy basically means ‘hands-on’ physiotherapy treatment and as a term can be used to describe a broad range of treatments including but not limited to joint manipulation, joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, and muscle energy techniques.

Our expert physiotherapists are able to manipulate or mobilize your joints in a similar way that a chiropractor would if it something that they feel you need. The most important question you should ask yourself though is why does it need manipulating in the first place? Cracking joints is easy - making you feel like you don’t need cracking is the real trick.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation Therapy

We excel in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients who have had surgery to ensure you have the best chance of restoring full function of the afflicted area.

Common post-surgical conditions we treat:

  • ACL ligament repair
  • Rotator cuff repair
  • Shoulder, knee and hip arthroscopy
  • Spinal fusion and discectomy
  • Total hip replacement
  • Total knee replacement

We work very closely with surgeons all over Vancouver Island and we ensure each patient is assessed and treated on an individual basis with a focus to rehabilitate, educate and regain independence. We regularly update your surgeon and GP so that whenever you have review appointments with them they are fully up to date about your progress in physiotherapy.
